Collaboration to Produce a Public Art Master Plan
Posted by: amyf on 01/11/2006 07:31 PM (Read: )
The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission is collaborating with the City of Coeur d'Alene and Lake City Development Corporation (LCDC) to produce a new plan that will help organize the community's efforts in public art.
In 1999, Coeur d'Alene became the first city in Idaho with a funding mechanism for the arts. The city now dedicates 1.33 percent of the total cost of all eligible capital improvement projects to fund art in public spaces. LCDC also sets aside a percentage of its projects to purchase public art. The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission administers this program.
The city, LCDC, and the Arts Commission, along with other community groups, want to take a proactive approach to public art. Their goal is to create a comprehensive Public Art Master Plan that will provide policies and procedures to ensure that the community will enjoy the full benefits of high quality public art.
The planning process is now underway, with a draft of the Public Art Plan scheduled to be ready for review by Spring 2006. Extensive public involvement will contribute to the planning. Interested citizens are invited to participate in upcoming public workshops. The first workshop will be held:
January 23, 2006
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Lake City High School
6101 Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene
The doors will open at 5:00 p.m., there will be light refreshments, free parking, and state-of-the-art electronic polling. Help create a Public Art Master Plan that will reach all corners of our community. Your contributions are important!

City Street Crews Fix Potholes Caused by "Freeze and Thaw"
Posted by: amyf on 01/03/2006 10:42 PM (Read: )
Motorists are requested to be alert and watchful for Coeur d'Alene pothole repair crews during the next couple of weeks. Record freezing temperatures followed by the quick thaw and heavy rains have created a number of potholes in the Coeur d'Alene area. Crews are focusing on temporary repairs to fix the streets during the next couple of weeks and will continue to do so as long as the weather permits. If you notice a pothole that needs repair, please contact the Pothole Hotline at 769-2233.
